I’m going through random junk on Tumblr and I come across a few different posts about how vampires can’t be asexual because reasons. Well shoot. What am I going to do with all this coffin and bat themed clothing/house decor/jewelry?
Why can’t a vampire be asexual? I mean i know in most lore and legends, vampires need to lure their victims in in order to feed. So they are often sexualized in stories so that they could get humans to lower their guard and get close to them for that bite. Plus vampires did represent the social fears of the time era they were created in. (basically they were sex monsters in an era of where chastity was valued. So yeah, on the surface i can see why people would say vampires can’t be asexual because they are the embodiment of lust.)
But that doesn’t mean anything! This is the modern era people, we can write what we want. Vampires can be asexual, after all they are similar to humans when it comes to emotions and (in most cases) appearance. They can use their charm and flirt with humans in order to feed off them but that doesn’t mean they have to develop sexual feelings towards them.
Honestly, it would be interesting to see an asexual vampire in a story someday. If the vampire didn’t want to romance humans into bed, they could still feed in other ways. Also, even if they don’t want to have sex, they could still do it for the benefit of their lover if the two characters were romantically together. (Asexuality- to summarize- is when someone doesn’t want to have sex in relationship. They can still fall in love but yeah, main thing- they do not want to have sex. Some Asexuals do have sex but its to please their partner. so it does happen even tho they are not fond of it.)
So yeah. If vampires today can be the “bad-boy” boyfriend in many teenage girl’s dreams, bi-sexual or even pansexual - why can’t they also be asexual?
